Child Care Institutes and their duty towards Child Welfare

With the aim of securing child rights, there are plenty of laws put in place to regulate Child Care Institutes and their behaviour with children. This article lists the duties CCIs have towards children and their importance


Child rights are equally important as any other normal person’s rights. A lot of special attention and care is required in the execution of acts and policies to maintain the basic rights of a child. The Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC) of 1989 defines a child. A child is any human being who has not attained the age of 18 years. All children have these rights, no matter who they are, where they live, what their parents do, what language they speak, what their religion is, whether they are a boy or a girl, what their culture is, whether they have a disability and whether they are rich or poor. No child should be treated unfairly on any of the above basis. It is the responsibility of CCI to restore children’s rights in order to provide them a stable and healthy life again. The main purpose of the laws related to children is to protect them during their minority. Thus, children’s rights are being classified under various spectrum civil, political, economic, social, and cultural rights.

Duties of the Child Care Institute

Right to Identity

CCI should ensure that the child must have a normal and stable environment where they can nurture the child in a normal and healthy way like every other child. They should also make sure that a child must have his/her personal identity which includes nationality, name, and gender. Children’s have the right to an identity – an official record of who they are. No one should take this away from them. When they make decisions, they think about how their decisions will affect children’s. Every decision should be for the benefit of the child and the government has a right as well as the responsibility to make sure children’s rights are protected by governing these laws.

Implementation of Policies for the differently-abled

They should ensure and make policies accordingly for differently abled children. As every child has the right to special education and care if they have a disability, as well as all the rights in this Convention so that they can live a full life.

No discrimination on the basis of Gender

It is CCI’s duty to ensure that there is no discrimination of child in the Institutes on the basis of whatever their ethnicity, gender, religion, abilities may be.

Right to be informed

Children’s have the right to get information that is important to their well-being, from radio, newspaper, books, computers and other sources such as national and international media. They should make sure that all the children’s must be aware of their surroundings and that every child is availed with the right to be protected from kidnapping or abduction and should be provided with a right to be protected from being hurt and mistreated, in body or mind.

Right to Education: Fundamental Right

They must provide every child the right to good quality education. Children should be encouraged to go to school to the highest level possible. Children’s education should be well supported. No fear about education should be created and children should be able to live peacefully. CCIs are not allowed to punish a child in any harsh or cruel way so as to instill fear in the minds of the children.

Protection from Abuse

They should make sure that the children have the right to protection from work that harms them and is bad for their health and education. If they work, they have the right to be safe and be paid fairly only after attaining certain age no minor should be indulged into any sort of child labor practices. They should provide a careful watch over children and protect them from any sort of abuse and award them with the right to be free from sexual abuse. No one is allowed to kidnap or sell a child and CCI should ensure that there shouldn’t be any sort of activities relating to kidnapping, abduction, selling or maiming any child for the purpose of importation or trafficking. If CCI’s are taking full care and control over the life of the child then it is their responsibility to provide ultimate care, protection and safety if the children have been hurt, neglected or badly treated. It is their responsibility to provide full assistance to the child in the process of giving them shelter and care. They should ensure that every child should have the opportunity to grow and develop free from preventable illness or injury.

Safety and Will of the Child to be safeguarded

They should pay a huge amount of attention to the safety and security of a child in their institute. There should be no separation of the child’s right against the child’s wish from the side of CCI. Children have the right to choose their own friends and join or set up groups, as long as it isn’t harmful to others. It is CCI’s responsibility to look over what kinds of a company the child is indulged in. They should ensure that a child is free from physically, mentally, and emotionally being abused and must also ensure that the child is given a safe and stable environment to play and rest. CCI ’s must ensure that the children have the right to the best healthcare possible, safe water to drink, nutritious food, a clean and safe environment, and information to help them stay well
